Chevening Scholarship 2027: Eligibility, Benefits & Deadline

The Chevening Scholarship 2027–28 is one of the UK’s most prestigious scholarships for international students. Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, it supports outstanding future leaders who want to pursue a one-year taught master’s degree in the UK. India is among the countries eligible for the award.

For students planning to study in the UK in 2027, Chevening can significantly reduce the financial burden of studying abroad while also providing access to a global professional network.

What Does Chevening Scholarship Cover?

Chevening is a fully funded scholarship, with financial support designed to cover major costs during your study period.

Key benefits include:

  • Full tuition fee coverage
  • Monthly living allowance
  • Return economy-class airfare
  • Travel allowances
  • UK visa application fee
  • Additional allowances, including arrival and departure support where applicable

This allows scholars to focus more on their studies, professional development, and networking rather than managing major education expenses.

Who Can Apply?

Chevening looks for applicants who demonstrate leadership potential, strong career goals, and the ability to create positive change.

For the 2027–28 scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree that qualifies them for postgraduate study in the UK.
  • Have at least 2,800 hours of work experience after completing their undergraduate degree.
  • Agree to return to their home country for at least two years after the scholarship ends.
  • Apply to three eligible UK master’s courses.

Chevening accepts different forms of work experience, including full-time and part-time employment, voluntary work, and paid or unpaid internships.

Important: Under the current eligibility guidance, applicants who completed their undergraduate degree after October 2024 will not have enough time to meet the required work-experience threshold for this cycle.

Which Courses Are Eligible?

Chevening supports full-time, taught master’s courses that meet its eligibility requirements.

Your chosen courses must generally:

  • Be full-time
  • Start in autumn, usually September or October
  • Lead to a master’s degree
  • Last between 9 and 12 months

Distance-learning, part-time, January-start, and research-based courses are not eligible.

You must select three eligible courses and apply to the universities separately. Applying to the universities is not required before submitting the Chevening application.
