IELTS Academic: How to Ace Your IELTS Examination?

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is widely recognised as a reliable means of assessing the language ability of candidates who need to study or work where English is the language of communication.

It is the world’s most popular English language test. The test covers all the necessary English skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Learn the Test Format

Time Management

It is very essential to properly manage your time during the exam as you only get 60 minutes to answer 40 questions. Put an alarm clock in front of you with a set a time every time you sit to practice for each section. Keep your approach straight; if you are not able to answer one question then move on to the next without wasting any time.

  • Read all the questions carefully first, then underline the keywords and then answer the questions.
  • While listening, make notes of all the answers.
  • Read, write and listen at the same time.
  • For Writing

  • Increase your vocabulary and grammar to use in your writing. To increase vocabulary, use memory cards, watch Hollywood movies and shows skim quickly to identify passage and draw inferences.
  • Prepare a list of familiar topics and write about it, plan your answer before you write by making key points.
  • Stick to the topic and follow the rule of one paragraph, one topic. Do not talk about multiple ideas in one single paragraph.
  • Make sure that you have enough time to check your spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • For Speaking

  • Join a club whose members speak English, try to speak in English with everyone, prepare salient points to start with and practice giving responses for a minute to gradually increase the time.
  • Be relaxed and carefully listen to the examiner’s questions & instructions.
  • Give complete answers to all the questions.
  • Use preparation time to plan your talk.
